Security Improved with CCTV System

Project title: Redhill residential complex and headquarters upgrade

Security was the Main Priority
Being a charitable organisation the RNIB has a duty to its donors to reduce outgoings wherever possible. Insurance discounts were recognised as one way of reducing expenditure. The threat of being charged for false call outs or ‘no-show’ by the fire brigade was a particular concern. In addition, their premises would need upgrading to new security regulations to reduce risk to their occupants. The heightened vulnerability of residents and staff gives the RNIB an additional burden of responsibility for their safety and security.

Meeting the Challenge
Our specialist team identified a requirement to upgrade both a large residential complex in Redhill and the charity’s head quarters in order to comply with the latest insurance criteria.

A new CCTV system covering the whole Redhill complex was investigated and installed to relevant standards, with the addition of a number of new cameras. The control technology was updated to digital, with relevant hardware installed to record incidents monitored by the multiplex system. Frequent stills, taken by cameras around the site, can now be monitored live by a bank of screens and each scene recorded separately for further interrogation.

The system at the seven story headquarters was upgraded with presence detectors which had improved sensitivity and accuracy, as well as the addition of a confirmation facility on the fire alarm system, thus preventing false alarms.

To ensure ongoing security at both sites, checks are also carried out on all fire alarm, nurse call, emergency lighting and CCTV systems on a regular basis. Every element is thoroughly tested to ensure good working order and that it complies with current regulations.

Benefits All Round
The CCTV installation was covered by a one-off cost, which could then be offset by reductions in insurance premiums.

Before intruders have a chance to enter any property their movements can now be monitored and recorded in real time to aid their apprehension.

With the upgrades to fire detection to confirm the alarm, the fire brigade can be sure that the call out is genuine

Confidence in the Future
As an employer and custodian of the safety of a number of partially sighted residents the RNIB is now confident that intruders won’t be able to access the building without being detected and employees and residents will also be warned of any fire.
