Project title: Employment Services control
room relocation
Client: Mitie
Site: Grays Inn Road, London
Moving a Full Service Control Room in the Shortest Possible Time
Due to refurbishment of the reception area, the following services had to be moved to a new, air conditioned room in a different part of the building. This involved moving a CCTV surveillance system consisting of 17 monitors, 5 interconnected multiplex hubs and 47 camera connections. In addition there was a fire alarm system with integrated pager system used for evacuation of deaf occupants, intruder alarm system with external door alarms, bomb evacuation system and a remote access control system to relocate.
Being in a multi tenanted property, in a residential area, contractors would have to work with minimal disruption to tenants and give great consideration to neighbours. Time was precious as empty floors could not be let until the relocated systems were in operation. For ease of management and co-ordination, as fewer suppliers as possible were sought.
All Under One Roof
Due to our specialist services being able to offer a combination of in-house engineers and in-depth understanding for all the different systems, all work could be undertaken by just one contractor. This greatly simplified its coordination, reduced the time to move the complex electronic security systems, allowing the relocation to run smoothly.
Practical solutions had to be developed to overcome a number of issues. Engineers worked unusual shifts, fitting noisy drilling in between tenants’ office hours and night time for residents. Rerouted cabling, which had to go round the exterior of the building, needed to be protected from mechanical damage and possible vandalism. Longer distances made resistance calculations and system integrity of paramount importance.
Fast and Effective
All connections and equipment were disconnected, re-sited and commissioned to all relevant regulations, within the agreed timeframe. This ensured the client complied with their responsibilities as landlord and employer. The system fully complied with all safety regulations, included the Disability Discrimination Act, making the empty floors immediately available for letting.
In Capable Hands:
The multi-disciplined work and the speed and consideration given to its completion, is now being made use of on additional projects.
